Wig Wamania – Metal Invader [gr]
5.5 / 6 - Well, Wig Wam have been put down as being a Eurovision gimmick band and a one hit wonder among other things. All the macho poofies that gorge themselves in cookie monster sung tales of murder and profanity - but deep down inside love their girlfriends - if they have girlfriends and are not really all that evil, also do put them down because of their weird dress sense. Hm, tough shit, they still do look more manly that say dodgemshard or however those gay puffs are called.
But on with the music.
The guys are rocking like motherfunkers - treading the same waters as The darkness are - but with far more gusto and much much better ideas. Also Glam is a SOOOOOO much better singer -not resorting in the ridiculous falsetto every 2 minutes - and as I witnessed first hand a much better and far more commanding performer.
Everything on the record is so 198*, with only the production using updated values, but that just fits the music just like a glove.
Everything is a lot better than on the bands debut, better songs, more powerful vocals, catchier hooks and bigger melodies, more complex backing vocals etc.
Easily one of the best things of the last 10 years along with the recent Hanoi rocks masterpieces - the crashdiet album the bands own debut and cruecified barbies' "in distortion we trust". After the dodgy 80s mock-intro Wigwamania, "Rock My Ride" just rawks your face right off with a huge riff. "Slave To Your Love" is a song that would make Def leppard turn green in envy."Gonna Get You Someday" is another rock anthem - one of many that will have you pumping your fists in the air n all, with it great chorus. "Bygone Zone" is a power ballad with huge vocals and layered harmonies."Dare Devil Heat" is a funny little number with a funny intro and a kick ass expanding bridge. "Kill My Rock 'N' Roll" is something Kiss could have written. The Instrumental "The Riddle" is a little out of place as it's a bit too epic - but it's an outstanding track in it's own right. Some amazing shredding indeed. "At The End Of The Day" is a lot mellower song - a ballad, again - sort of balancing the album. "A Rock 'N' Roll Girl Like You" is Poison for the 06. Can't Get Her (Out Of My Bed) is funny - an uptempo rocker with a twist - and dead funny lyrics and "Breaking All The Rules" continues in the same vain - with some totally insane lyrics - but it's a brilliant song nonetheless. Easily one of the best hard rock albums of 2006.
This is rock n roll!!!
