Wig Wamania – Strutter Magazine [nl]

8.9 / 10 - GOTTHARD and BONFIRE move over, here’s WIG WAM with the fantastic follow-up to their classic debut ‘Hard to be a rock’n’roller’. The Norwegian band took the world by storm last year with their performance at the Eurovision of their killer song “In my dreams”, while their album (a re-release of their 2004 album ‘666…the neighbour of the beast’ featured nothing but classy 80s sing-a-long melodic rockers. The DVD of the band was the absolute highlight of their discography so far, because this contained a full concert with an orchestra and a lot of great video footage.

Now the band makes a comeback with their new CD ‘Wig wamania’, which has already hit big in Norway. The CD is filled with the same kind of catchy melodic hardrock as their debut, so once again filled with references to the 80s sounds of BON JOVI (“Gonna get you someday” with it’s big anthem chorus has the same kinda vibe as “Living on a prayer” and also the song “Can’t get her out of my bed” which sounds like modern BON JOVI, is also the only weak song on the CD), DEF LEPPARD (the fantastic midtempo AOR/Melodic Rocker “Bygone zone”), KISS (the catchy uptempo melodic rocker “Kill my rock’n’roll” has the same kinda hook as “Rock hard” of KISS), IRON MAIDEN meets MALMSTEEN (the instrumental “The riddle”) and a lot of GOTTHARD (“Rock my ride”, “Dare devil heat” and “A R’n’R girl like you” - which starts however with a riff from THE KNACK’s “My Sharona”), while the band also jumps on some ACCEPT/MANOWAR midtempo bombastic 80s Heavy Metal (“Breaking all the rules”) and of course the ballads are not forgotten (“At the end of the day”).

The only songs I haven’t mentioned yet are the short opening intro “Wig wania” and the best song of the CD, the superb midtempo Melodic Rocker “Slave to your love” which has got all it takes in becoming a huge hit wordwide!

Concluded, WIG WAM makes a very strong return with their 2nd CD, which proves they are a band to stay for a while and let’s hope they will release much more of these gems in the future.
