OIKOTIMES [gr]
What are your current projects & plans, now that you have finished your Japanese tour?
GLAM: Our main plan is really to stay away from each other for a while and enjoy the freedom of doing other projects really. Next year we’ll get together again to start working on our third studio album. I’m planning a solo album and will probably start recording it early 2008. The release depends on when the Wig Wam album is to be released. I have also produced a Queen show called THE SHOW MUST GO ON, which you can preview at www.myspace.com/theshowmustgoonqueentribute This is a preview of our pre-production, and will be filmed for a DVD release early next year. It’s a real treat to sing those songs and we will tour with the show until there’s a new Wig Wam Tour on the road. I’ll also do some more musical work and some TV. I’m working on so many exciting projects these days, having the greatest time of my life. Teeny is also working on a solo project, so I guess we’re simply enjoying ourselves while reloading our Wig Wam batteries.
Talking about tours, did you enjoy your concert dates in the UK earlier this year? What was your impressions of the UK fans?
GLAM: We loved doing that show. When ThunderGround Festival was cancelled we didn’t wanna let our fans down, so we came anyway on our own expense. YOU CAN’T STOP ROCK ’N ROLL !! And what a great night it was. Our UK fans were awesome, but there were Wig Wamaniacs from all over Europe coming to that show really. It was the UNITED WIG WAMANIA GATHERING turning Nottingham up side down.
Are there any plans for a European tour?
GLAM: Yes!!!! But first we have to finish our third studio album. Then our goal is to tour as many countries possible on that tour. Ireland? Hell yeah!!
And when can we expect a new single and album?
GLAM: Hopefully late 2008, but we won’t put any pressure on ourselves this time. So when the album is done and we agree that this is the ultimate Wig Wam album….BAAAANG!!! The same goes for a single!!
Going back to Eurovision 2005, what was your experience of the contest? Were there any low points?
GLAM: Low points…apart from some of the Diva Queens…not really!! But playing ONE song only you know…we’d love to do the whole show ha ha They had to drag us off the stage. We loved the craziness that surrounded the contest, and treated the whole thing as one hell of a party. We put Hard Rock on the Eurovision map and paved the way for Lordi ha ha
What is your best memory of the contest?
GLAM: Performing IN MY DREAMS on that stage was marvellous and what we came there for you know. But the hotel didn’t suck either…
Do you think that the contest has changed, even in the short time, since you competed?
GLAM: Yes indeed!!! It seems as though loud guitars have entered the contest finally. And it’s finally allowed to do Hard Rock songs in the show as well.
Turning back to this year, what was your opinions on this year's Norwegian Eurovision entry by Guri Schanke, Ven a bailar conmigo? Also did you like the NMGP entry from Dusty Cowshit (Døsty Cåwshit)?
GLAM: Guri is a great performer…but not exactly my cup of coffee. The song didn’t do it for me. I preferred The Arks song and Eirkur Hauksson's song you know. I was shocked they didn’t do better. But who voted anyway? Dusty Cowshit is a crazy bunch that I happen to know pretty well. They did good for themselves and achieved what they came there for.
Of course 'Teeny' would be biased, seeing as he wrote the song (Wannabe), but what does the rest of the band think of the song, which sung by the band Crash?
GLAM: I loved that song, and thought it would bring CRASH! to the Eurovision Song Contest. On stage they were brilliant, but sometimes the 20 seconds of introduction OFF stage can be even more important….and I don’t think they convinced the voters in that section…
Is the band in favour of another Norsk Melodi Grand Prix entry, given the succes of your two previous attempts as a band?
GLAM: You never know. But yet nothing is planned
Is Trond planning on writing any more songs for Norsk Melodi Grand Prix?
GLAM: Don’t know about Teeny, but I wrote a song for NMGP 2008.
Given the news on the band's website, that Trond has begun a new musical project with one of the members of 'Crash' and Eirikur Hauksson, does he want to reveal anymore about the collaboration?
GLAM: I think they’re planning a release in someway, but I don’t know anything about the the project other than what I have read on his site.
What is the band's reaction to the poor result of Eirikur's 2007 Eurovision entry for Iceland? Did you like it?
GLAM: I hated the result but LOVED the song and the singers performance. Eirikur deserves all the best.
Do you, Åge, have any intentions of continuing with your solo career, following your album from last year?
GLAM: Yes indeed! I’m working on my second solo album as I speak. And it will be a lot more flamboyant that my first one.
What is your favourite song from the entire WIG WAM playlist?
GLAM: It used to be In My Dreams, but for the last part of our tour it has been Gonna Get You Someday and Bygone Zone.
Do you guys have any messages for the readers of OIKOTIMES.COM?
GLAM: Hopefully I’ll see you all in Eurovision sometime…until then keep a smile on your faces.
And finally, is ROCK still the new SCHLÄGER?
GLAM: Still is, and will always be since the day Wig Wam cranked up the amplifiers and rocked Eurovision. Rock is here to stay…even in Eurovision Song Contest!!! HARD ROCK HALLELUIAH!!!
