Moda Nightclub, Kiev, Ukraine – eurovision.tv [ebu]

The music in Kyiv was turned up to 11 last night as Norwegian glam-rockers Wig Wam treated the city to some good old-fashioned rock ‘n’ roll.
The band took to the stage at Moda Bar at around 1am, with lead singer Glam shrieking, “Do you wanna rock?!” to a perplexed local crowd who, moments earlier, had been dancing to J-Lo and Destiny’s Child. But the audience was soon jumping around and singing along to a performance that owed more to Iggy Pop than traditional pop. Wig Wam’s set was supposed to be 30 minutes but lasted nearly an hour with the boozy crowd demanding not one but two encores.
The set was comprised of rock classics, including ‘Living On A Prayer’ by Bon Jovi, ‘Love In An Elevator’ and ‘Walk This Way’ by Aerosmith, ‘Ballroom Blitz’ by Sweet and ‘Dschingis Khan’ by Dschingis Khan. They also performed their Eurovision hit ‘In My Dreams’. Glam’s performance was as eye-catching as ever – constantly clambering over the speakers, swinging his microphone around or climbing over the railings of the balcony – but, while he swigged beer, his fellow band members only drank water! The audience definitely had their share of alcohol, though.
The Icelandic delegation in particular loudly sang their Eurovision number between Wig Wam’s songs. In the final encore, Glam invited Selma and her dancers to join him on stage – “Come on, we’ve got a day off tomorrow!” – and he and Selma duetted on ‘Wild Thing’ by The Troggs. Both delegations will be nursing sore heads and ringing ears after this raucous show. Rock on!
