667 ...The Neighbour Of The Beast - RockReport [be]

4 / 6 - The debut album of Norwegian band Wig Wam is a prime example that one should never judge a book, or CD in this case, by its cover. These gentlemen may have gone for an image that brings back memories of those glorious glammed up 80’s mixed with that of current rock heroes The Darkness but musically they’re walking along a slightly different route.
So what can you actually expect when you purchase this disc? As the band’s line-up consists of former members from the likes of Evenrude, Sha-Boom, Dream Police and Artch, it’s not surprising that they’re sound is all about big guitars, pomp edged keyboards and pulsating vocals. If you, like us, missed that lush Scandie (with a touch of Gotthard and Bonfire) sound you really can’t go wrong with this one. None of the songs ever dip into the mediocre, from the opening strains of “The Best Song In The World”, through the stomping “Hard To Be A Rock ’n Roller” or the big riffed “Car-lyle” to the infectious harmonies of final track “No More Living On Lies”, it’s one big cock rock party.
Lyrically the guys have their tongues firmly stuck in their collective cheeks and it’s pretty obvious that this album is all about having fun.
The Darkness may be heralded as the return of melodic rock to the forefront but take it from me we’d all be better off if Wig Wam took over their torch. So how about giving these gentlemen a little support?
