Wig Wam - Non Stop Rock 'N' Roll
4,5 / 6
Well, Wig Wam, are the leaders of the Scandi neo Gla-m-elodic, uprising, along with The Poodles, Heat and a few more amazing bands. A bit campier than the rest, but with a superior singer than any of the other bands in Age Sten Nielsen (Glam) they have managed, half convincingly to shed the Eurovision band tag, by writing a shitload of anthemic songs, after “In my dreams” and penetrating through the wall of never, with their explosive live performances… they ‘re the modern day Queen meets Sweet. That’s how much I respect them…
Album number 3… now, non stop Rock N Roll sees them on a new record company, Frontiers Records, one of the premier labels… and the choice doesn’t seem to be a bad one.
Let’s check the album more in depth however… I remember asking, the local promo-lovely, to inform me at once – once it was avail, which she did – but I also remember being a little let down, on my way home, listening to the album in the car… Now while the album has not completely sunk in me completely, I must say that consequent listens, revealed the album to be a much better affair, than what the hasty car-ride first-time, had indicated. Opener “Do you Wanna Taste it” – is a typical Wig Wam, hymnal, complete with an infectious if not slightly silly chorus. Glam, just oozes and drips with charisma and confidence and the band just fires on all six – shooters ! Bam bam, crash boom, bang, baby you ‘ve been (F$^#$#G) Wig Wammed ! “Walls come down” – begins, a bit ala KISS, and goes down, a BAD ENGLISH meets HARDLINE direction… always retaining it’s WW character. “Wild One” seems to be borrowing somewhat from the party atmosphere, that was very evident on Ages recent and brilliant “Glamunition” second solo outing… but has the harder WW, edge over that one… C’mon everybody, is something …Def Leppard, would have begged to have written, but the CHORUS really is a bit of a let down….with a catchy chorus – this would have been a HUGE INTERNATIONAL CHART TOPPER ! “Man on the Moon” is a beautiful ballady type of tune – but I suppose, again Age did a little better on Glamunition with thing’s like “Don’t”. Plus, shouldn’t the lyric be “Man ON The Moon” ? Still some of the lyrics are seriously beautiful… “Still I m burning” is a melodic number, that sounds a little like the poodles I suppose with beautiful solo, there in the middle by the way. “All You Wanted” is a lot more ominous, a more dark, Wig Wam… but it still has a Kiss (mid 80s) type of catchiness about it… the “title song” is a fast paced affair, with the chorus paying a bit of homage, to Bad’ E’s “Forget me not”… in it’s own way… hehe… it’s not the most original thing ever, but, it works well and as soon as the fiery solo, burns everything down it’s path you don’t mind the little “loan” at all. “From Here” is another ballad, that really proves Age to be one of the best singers in the world today. The guy – is a friggin, legend, he’s up there with all the “Old Ones” and the world seems to turn a blind eye, which is a damn shame… I suppose it might take him and the boys a few more years and a couple of more album before the world, surrenders to them… but it will eventually happen. You can’t keep a good man or a good band down…. And WW are just that. “Rocket through my Heart” – is a little bit like “Sleeping in my Car” by Roxette, but a lot harder obviously …. Which means, it’s a huge friggin party anthem. Pop Metal at it’s best. Or Metal Pop if you like it the other way ….”Chasing Rainbows” is a mid tempo, that recalls, late 70s/early 80s melodic UK bands… even delving in the UK proto glam rock and later glam metal… it’s ok, by me, but it’s short lead, is it’s most impressive aspect, at least for me… listening to the album, time and again, I figured it out – as it is the normal “album closer”. It’s not bad, but it’s not the biggest bang, they could go out with. Now- apparently there’s also a bonus track – in the shape of “Gotta Get It On” which I initially thought could be an Animals cover, but it turns out it’s not… fact of the matter – it sounds a bit like T-Rex on a bad trip ! LOL ! Ehm… over all Wig Wam, have trimmed some of the Cheese, away, leaving them a little meaner and leaner … but still on top of their game... which is Rock N Roll baby !
Even though I still consider this to be their weakest album to date, it does face some fierce competition as I consider its 2 predecessors are modern day classics. This one is just classy, so I suppose I ‘ll take a bite! I just hope the next one is another cheese dripping classic …. Haha more cheese please – and a little cowbell if you don’t mind. For the daring, I ‘d recommend getting both this one and Glam’s Glamunition…. I suppose if you ‘re open minded enough and you love melody and big choruses, this will be like all your Xmas’s at once !
Wig Wam - don’t bloddy stop at the top !
