Wig Wam - Non Stop Rock N' Roll
'Do You Really Wanna, Do You Really Wanna Taste It' is the first line of track one titled "Do You Really Wanna Taste" and so far my answer is of course! This band has always walked the fine line between being a throwback act and a parody of all things pop metal from '87 - '93. They did release Titans Wheel which was an odd Brit Pop record with touches of '70's AOR and '60's teen pop akin to Ricky Nelson and the like. The parody album 667...The Neighbour Of The Beast is an excellent record and fun as hell to listen to anytime or place. They followed it up with more of the same in a repackaging called Hard To Be A Rock N' Roller In Kiev depicting the band more glam in a Sweet manor instead of a Motley Crue one. In 2010 the band has found their sound and turned off the parody aspect to just be a kick ass rock n' roll band. That is a very good thing because they have the chops and the talent to take this to soaring heights. On the second track "Walls Come Down" the bands fully matured Euro-Metal Glam is powerful enough and slick enough not to mention catchy enough to keep your attention in hopes of what is still to come. The riff of "Wild One" is instantly memorable and will have you grab your six string so you can play along. The bands gigantic backing vocals jump in and your hooked as the volume knob will surely be turned up. Now is the album a masterpiece? No sadly it is not because of the amount of filler "Still I'm Burning", "All You Wanted" & the forgettable "Man In The Moon", albeit I am harsh on slow songs and ballads. The bands ability to write a catchy rock song is never long in jeopardy as proven by their past albums. Just when you might want to move on to a different album they redeem themselves with "Non Stop Rock N' Roll" an ACDC meets Led Zeppelin meets Billy Squier styled rocker that blazes. Wig Wam then writes a good power ballad "From Here" that balances the cheese, hook and production to near perfection. One of those songs that can stand up to the styles best material easily. Not to fall apart after two very strong songs we are given the mid-paced hard rocker "Rocket Through My Heart" that is better than every Bon Jovi song in the last ten years. You can't argue considering the last few albums that band has released. Wig Wam saves the best song of their career for the albums closing track. This song made my top 100 songs of 2009 as I had the album early so I was all over this song the last few weeks of '09. It's so damn good it took the #16 slot in a rather short listening cycle and will most likely be a hold over in the top 20 of 2010 as well. "Chasing Rainbows" takes everything I love about hard rock and glam/pop metal and wraps it up into a nice 4:56 package that includes a chorus that will become ingrained into your brain forever. I've caught my wife, daughter and a few others singing it randomly over the last few weeks. If you don't get hooked by this song then your seriously lacking in the musical taste department it's that damn good.
Wig Wam could have a world wide hit song if only they can get some support to push this album and glorious song in a manner it so deserves. Non Stop Rock N' Roll is about as good as you can get in the glam rock/pop metal genre in the 2000's and is one album all fans of the genre should add to their collection of sparkling gems.
